Why I Think the Nikon D3X Will Flop

The D3X was just announced and I’m still wondering why Nikon chose this path.

Who needs the D3X? Commercial photographers and landscape photographers.

Hasselblad territory, although I doubt those people will stray Nikon’s way (those who wanted chose Canon a while ago).

With the Canon 5D-II with it’s 21MP just out, at ONE THIRD the price of a D3X, and the Sony A900 offering the same pixel count as the Nikon also at ONE THIRD the price, there is simply no reason for anyone to go Nikon, other than to reuse an available lens collection for supplementary commercial work.

Nada.

Bad move, Nikon. You should have plunked the sensor into a D800….

    Hmm……
    I think you are right……
I just bought D3 for several month
    I won’t buy D3x actually……

    $7999 is too expensive……

    but you say sony A900,
    I think it’s a bad DSLR……
    I even don’t think it’s a DSLR at all!

And you really think D3x is the same level A900 or 5D-II?

I do not think it will be a completly flop. Allthow Canon and Sony have same resolutions, I don’t think a pro photographer will change its system just because of the 21Mpx. I think for the serious studio photographer who has allready a 12Mpx Nikon camera this is the opertunity to get a higher resolution camera without changing its system. And by the way, the nikon system is far cheaper and faster than a hassi in terms of fps.
